OREA welcomes planned repeal of Green Energy Act

The Ontario Government is planning to repeal legislation that would require home sellers to obtain a home energy audit before the sale.
The move has been welcomed by the Ontario Real Estate Association which says the proposed repeal will save home sellers thousands of dollars.
“This program threatened to put consumers at risk with no set standards to protect senior citizens or other homeowners from unscrupulous operators who could pressure them into unneeded repairs,” said OREA CEO Tim Hudak. “Seniors and low income families rely on the hard earned equity in their homes – a low energy score on their home would have cost them thousands of dollars in precious retirement savings, with little or no discernible benefit to the environment.”
The previous provincial government had planned to introduce the Green Energy Act’s home audit requirements during 2018.
